Our Purpose:

The purpose of Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to win the lost to Christ, to evangelize the world through missionary outreach, to build up the saints, to teach children by operating Altamonte Christian School, and to earnestly contend for the faith of the saints.

Our Mission:

Building bridges to Jesus Christ. We believe God has called us to share His love and the Good News of Jesus Christ with the world – starting with the people of Seminole County. He desires for us to be His church, enabling and equipping people in finding and fulfilling God’s will and purpose for their lives.

We believe that the Holy Bible is the Word of God. We believe in ONE True God and that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God. We believe in the Holy Spirit. We believe that man is a sinner. We believe in Salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe that Satan exists. We believe in Heaven, in creation, and in the local church. We believe in baptism and the Lord’s supper as church ordinances. We believe that Jesus Christ will return. We believe in the grace of giving. We believe in missions and in Christian education.

In July of 1966, Loyal and Dixie Carlson came to minister at a small country church in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The small country church was one of several satellite churches of Temple Baptist Church in Orlando established four years earlier. By the time Pastor Carlson arrived the congregation had all but disappeared along with the promise of $100 a month salary. There were seven people in attendance that first Sunday – Loyal Carlson, Dixie Carlson, Scott Carlson, Mabel Carlson, Dora Clark, and two un-named widows. Attendance grew and many members were baptized into the church at the lake at the bottom of the hill. The property, building, pews, and song books were purchased by the church from Temple Baptist and Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church was officially incorporated.

In 1967, Pastor Carlson saw the need for Christian education and founded Altamonte Christian School. The school started with kindergarten. Pastor Carlson and his mother, Mabel Carlson, were the first two teachers.

Services grew and expansion occurred. A Deaf Ministry was begun, Faith Promise Missions was introduced, leaders were trained, and programs were instituted. The work of the Lord progressed.

In September of 2003, P.S.D.B.C. voted to make Scott Carlson Co-Pastor with his father, L.W. Carlson, and senior Pastor at the time of his father’s retirement. After almost 40 years of faithful service to the Lord, Pastor L.W. Carlson retired as Pastor on January 1, 2005 and Pastor Scott Carlson became the Senior Pastor.

Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist Church and is affiliated with the Baptist Bible Fellowship.

We are pumped about this year's possibilities for drive. There is so much planned to glorify God and lead others to a relationship with Him. If you are a parent, we want you to understand how much we appreciate your putting your trust in us with your teen. It is not a responsibility we take lightly. We want to make the most of their time in drive and help them build a stronger relationship with God, even when they are not around us. Keep watching our facebook to see what God is doing.

Youth Choir

Youth choir is a fun and exciting ministry where children can use their talents to serve and worship the Lord, while being a blessing to others. If you are new to our church family or have never considered involvement in youth choir, we welcome your young person to be involved through this ministry of music. If you are back for another great school year of children’s music and “know the ropes,” thank you, again, for entrusting us with your young person!

Youth choir is for young people in grades K-4 through 6th grade. Members learn to sing, memorize scripture, do drama presentations, play tone chimes, etc – All the while glorifying the Lord and having fun! Our class is on Sunday evenings in the Elementary Building, room E103. Just before the preaching begins, we leave the main auditorium together. Pastor Long brings us a short Bible lesson to begin practice. On weeks when there is a special speaker (eg: a missionary), we do not have youth choir. We believe it is important to expose the children to our missionaries as often as possible.

The children are given a folder to keep their music items in. Notices are handed out to the parents that will outline important events coming up for those in youth choirs, including special practices or early warm-up times.

Treasure Seekers: Junior Church

Our purpose: To share Christ with the children of our community and help them experience what God has for them.

Our Passage: Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (KJV)

We would like to start a puppet ministry. What a great way to reach children! If you are interested in helping in that area, please contact Pastor Long. We are still in need of nursery workers, teachers, helpers, and a 4th-6th grade Sunday School teacher. Please contact Pastor Long, if you would like to be a part of this vital ministry of our church.

AWANA

AWANA is an international youth program offered at Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church as a positive influence in the development of young people. The AWANA name is derived from the Biblical principle in II Timothy 2:15 which reads, “study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workmen that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”(KJV)

All of our clubs meet on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:30pm from August through mid-May. We ask that parents be on time to pick up their children. Third-Sixth graders begin their nights in the gym. Three-year-olds through second grade meet in their assigned classroom in the elementary building. The AWANA program is divided into three segments: Game time, handbook time, and council time.

Game time:
Game time offers clubbers the opportunity to participate as team members in physical activities which help develop team spirit, good sportsmanship, coordination skills, and self confidence. Although games are competitive in nature and winning is desirable, we strive to teach playing in the spirit of the game over winning at all costs.

Handbook time:
Handbook time consists of interaction between individual clubbers and their leader. Clubbers recited memory work and answer leader’s questions on their Bible reading assignments. When the leader is satisfied that the clubber has covered the material adequately, he/she will sign that particular section of the handbook. Parents are strongly encouraged to help their children learn their sections at home.

Council time:
Council time includes singing, announcements of upcoming events and contests, and instruction from the Bible covering a variety of topics relevant to growing up and coping with today’s society.

Scott Carlson

Senior Pastor

Hello and welcome to our new church website. We are so excited to share with you our vision and give you the opportunity to explore all of what we have to offer. Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church has a great heritage, and we believe an even greater future.

It has been my privilege to serve as the senior pastor of PSDBC since 2005! Time has flown and God has blessed! Before taking the position of senior pastor I served with my father, Loyal Carlson, 15 years as associate pastor and 2 years as co-pastor.

I married Rebecca Schank in 2002 and have recently been abundantly blessed to adopt twin boys.

I would love the opportunity to meet you and your family and introduce you to mine!

Scott Long

Childrens Pastor
Email: slong@altamontechristian.org

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior at age twelve. It wasn't until my senior year of high school that I felt the Lord calling me to full-time Christian service, and it was then that I dedicated my life to the Lord's work.

For 6 1/2 years I served on the mission field with the Apache Indians. I have also been an Associate Pastor and Children's Pastor. I have taught at Altamonte Christian School for several years, and am currently the Children's Pastor for our Church. I am married and have two children.

My life verse is Philippians 4:13. My greatest joy is seeing young people come to know Christ as Savior and then become committed to the service of Christ.

Justin Brownlee

Student Pastor
Email: jbrownlee@altamontechristian.org

Justin and his wife Denille moved to Altamonte Springs in December 2008. Justin then became the student pastor at Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church. Justin has worked with students of various ages since he was in high school. After graduating from the University of Florida, Justin felt the call to work with students full time. Shortly after graduating, Justin was hired by the Florida Department of Health to become the director of a community-based abstinence education program in his hometown of LaBelle, Florida. Through this experience, along with he and Denille’s aspirations to reach the young generation to Christ, the Lord opened the door for Justin here at Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church.

Justin and Denille have a desire to advance this generation to become world-changers. They invite you or your student to come and see what Drive Student Ministries is all about every Wednesday at 7pm and Sunday at 10am.

Loyal Carlson

Pastor Emeritus

In July of 1966, Pastor Loyal Carlson and his wife Dixie came to minister to a small country church, a satellite church of Temple Baptist, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Upon his arrival, the congregation had all but disappeared along with the promise of a $100 monthly salary. However, attendance found growth and many members were baptized into the church, by a lake near the church property. As time progressed, the church purchased the property, building, pews, and song books from Temple Baptist and Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church was officially incorporated.

A visionary seeing the need for outreach in the community, Pastor Loyal continued seeing growth in his ministry, and saw the need for Christian education in the community. In 1967, he founded Altamonte Christian School. The school started with kindergarten, with the teachers being Pastor Loyal and his mother, Mabel Carlson.

As services grew, so did expansion. A deaf ministry was started, Faith Promise Missions was introduced, several programs and areas of ministry were instituted and leaders were trained. In the early 1970's, a new church auditorium was built to accommodate the growing church body of Palm Springs Drive Baptist Church, and shortly after a multi-purpose building was developed to accommodate and introduce Altamonte Christian School's expansion for K4 through the 12th grade. The work of the Lord progressed.

In September of 2003, the church voted to make Scott Carlson, Pastor Loyal's son, Co-Pastor of the Church, and senior pastor at the time of his father's retirement. After nearly 40 years of faithful service to the Lord, Pastor L.W. Carlson retired as Pastor on January 1, 2005 and Pastor Scott Carlson became the Senior Pastor.
